What people say about working with us

“I feel very lucky to have come across a standout researcher and mentor like Joe. On several collaborations, Joe has supported me to elevate my qualitative research skills by giving me access to a rich source of tools and techniques. Joe does not teach how to be a good researcher on a powerpoint, but helps you build the right attitude to get in-depth insights.” Melissa Rousset - Qualitative researcher and microfinance specialist

“Joe has real energy and intelligence. He’s not only an excellent qualitative researcher, but also a highly effective trainer.” — Ben Marks, CEO, YouthSight

“Joe has a legendary ability to master enormous complexity - both of subject matter and methodology - and hone in on the points that neither colleagues nor clients have noticed. But what makes Joe really special is his deep-seated commitment to helping the people he works with - from senior clients to research participants themselves - to develop their own capability and knowledge. Makes serious research simply the most fun.” Phil Copestake, Managing Director, Cubane Consulting, UK

“Joe has a remarkable way with people. He energised our staff in Islamabad for months after his visit.” Jim Williams, Raabta

“Working with Joe was an absolute delight. His thoughtful, flexible and open approach was exactly what we needed. He carried out case-studies with young people in a really sensitive way and made the participants feel comfortable and at ease. We were really pleased with the results of his research which allowed us to share the impact of our work with funders in a meaningful way.” Eleanor Cocks - Head of Creative Learning, ART31, University of Kent

“Every time I meet with Joe, I come away buzzing with new ideas. He is a great listener but also really does ask great questions that help me to put some shape around ideas for new projects and research.” Katie Turner - Acting Head of Research and Development, Institute for Voluntary Action Research

“Joe is willing, in a thoughtful way, to challenge perceptions and clients. He was honest with us when his research revealed that some things were not working and calmly frank feeding back less than positive feedback from some participants.” — Tom Andrews, People United

“I first met Joe when I was working on an arts and kindness community project. Initially I felt a little nervous about my interview with Joe as I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. However, he immediately put me at ease, asking questions which developed into a really interesting conversation. It was through this conversation which led me to discover who I was as an artist and the approach I use when working with young people which has been invaluable in my work ever since.”Nova Marshall - Artist and Creative Producer
